TRIO' 第6弾
TRIO61
1. O Holy Night/

----------------------------------------------

The theme of this album is "Amazing Grace" and all the songs in this album are so called Hymns. The songs are based on this "Amazing Grace" which means to say "Why are you doing so good to me!"

Actually this liner notes for these songs have nothing much to do with our Jazz performance. Our performance is an expression of joy of music in the time of "Now" for the group called Trio' which three of us played together for ten years without any fights. I hope you can feel the music by pure music lovers like us “Trio”

I am writing liner notes for explanations of the lyrics of hymns not explanations of our performance.

For these hymns in this CD have some importance and are backbones of my life so I wanted to share with you.

You may enjoy music performance of Trio as well as enjoy knowing some meanings of hymns when you play this CD. That may be double blessings to some of you.

It is my heart desire for you.

This song is well known Christmas song. The cover photo of this album is taken from the hillside of Bethlehem where Christ Jesus was born.

As we are told that the Son of God was born here as human, the event was too far from our imagination.

The son of God namely Jesus was to be killed when he was just over thirty years of age on the cross. And we were told that His Death on the cross was the plan of God from the very beginning.

Jesus Christ has begun his life at the lowest place in the society. He was born in a manger for the cattle. This is very symbolic place for him as he will give his life for the people of the world.

2. The Old Rugged Cross / 丘に立てる荒削りの 【George Bennard 聖歌402番】

Rugged cross! The first song in this CD was about His birth, then the next song leads you to the Cross, the climax of his end. The cross was famous as a fashion for accessories but the real meaning of the cross of Christ was not mentioned often.

For some people the cross was an amulet, though the Cross was most cruel way of death penalty of those days. When you see the it says The cross of Jesus atoned for us, the sufferings of the Cross was for me.

For some people these Lyrics do not make sense and the word Sin does not relate to you.

Here is the key to understand this song. The Key is to realize there is God who made heaven and earth and everything in it. When you realize God who there and who is the Creator of Heaven and Earth,

you may begin to understand the depth of old hymns.

3. He Is Our Peace / 主イエスの十字架の血で 【Martin Nystrom 訳詞:安田諭】

This song also relates to the Cross. Japanese title says ' By the blood of the Lord Jesus'

The lyrics goes like ' He is our peace Who has broken down every wall,

He is our peace, He is our peace. He is our peace

Who has broken down every wall, He is our peace, He is our peace.

Cast all your cares on Him, For He cares for you,

He is our peace, He is our peace.'

Peace here is like a feeling of which you go back home where your loving family are waiting.

When we can rest at the place of God's Creation there is peace, but for many of us we don't accept God who is the Creator, nor worship God. Indeed we are like runaways from God. So our relationship with God is broken. This song is telling us that we are welcome back home to the father with the help of the blood of Jesus for reconciliation.

What is the meaning of the Blood of Jesus? In the days of Old Testament, The people of Israel, God's chosen ones are to give sacrifices to God for the forgiveness of their sins , the sacrifices such as sheep and cows, They killed these animals at the alter so that their sins were forgiven because of the sacrificial death of these animals. That was the idea of forgiveness of sin. Some life was to be taken and to be cut off for our forgiveness of our sin and from the penalties.

That was the prototype of the Death on the Cross of Jesus.

Jesus came and took all of our sin and penalties on our behalf on the cross so that we may be forgiven and can renew the fellowship with the God the Father and the Creator.

God will forgive those who believe in Jesus as their savor for He died on their behalf for atonement.

God invites us to come to Jesus for peace with God

4. In Christ Jesus / キリストの中に 〜 In His Time / 御手の中で

 In Christ Jesus /

"There is God's Glory shinning in Christ and image of God has clearly seen in Jesus the Son of God"

this song says to us.

The final and most important image of God was seen in Jesus that was the image of the Love of God. "God is love” says in the Bible (1John 4:16)

Then this song encourages us to keep on seeking the Grace of Christ and the Word of God as we live day to day. We are to start walking with God by knowing His Love and keep on knowing His Love is the Key to our lives.

Paul says “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God,” (Galatians 2:20)

In His Time / 御手の中で 【Diane Ball 訳詞:関根弘興】

In His time, every thing was known by God and in His time things are changing.

When we have good time we can sing praise to God rather easy, but even when we have bad times as God knows it we should be able to praise God as usual. But it is very important to realize to be able to sing praises at anytime is when we are in His hand or when we are deeply related to God in our life. The runaways need to return home to God for the praise and thanks giving. Indeed the life will change from sorrow to praise.

John Newton

Amazing Grace

Amazing Grace is the title of this CD.

The title of this song in Japanese is "Amazing Grace indeed"

Though God knows who we are, sinful men and women, He sent Jesus for us and He died on a cross on our behalf, the Bible tells us this is the Love of God. The Love of God has been shared to you and me.  God’s love has been given to us who are unworthy to receive it. We realize all this is Grace of God indeed.

“Amazing Grace how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me” the song starts.

The writer of this hymn is John Newton. he was a slave trader ans was sure to know that he was a wretched man. He knew that his life needed to be changed.

Some of us may often feel that we are better than other people and look down on them, but if our hearts have been shown openly in public we may be ashamed of what we often think inside and we know we are no better than others.

Yes, we all are wretched persons before God. Amazing Grace is for these who are wretched and have darkness inside. When we look up the Cross of Jesus just as we really are, we are gazing “Amazing Grace”.

The second verse says

"T'was Grace that taught my heart to fear. And Grace, my fears relieved."

Once we were fearful before God because of our sins and God's wrath to us, but as Jesus took them for us on the cross all the fears were gone. When fears were gone from us the heart to trust God started to grow from within.

6. The power to love /

Power to Love , power to forgive, power to heal came out from Jesus and fill our soul, the song goes.

The love which the hymn mentioned may be a little different to what we normally use the word Love.

We love when we feel like doing it, but we don't love if we don't like him or her. This kind of Love is selfish love and normal human love.

God's love is different to human way of love. God's love is so vast and unconditional as His love welcome to accept runaways like us.

God has placed Jesus on the cross so that people like runaways may be forgiven. Though Jesus himself has to suffer a lot as he prayed with blood and sweat and tears to say to the father to let this cup away from him, He pressed on to the cross to take all the judgement so that the sinful people may be forgiven.

The bible teaches us the Love of God by pointing out the suffering of God's son Jesus on the cross for all of humanity. The power to love derives indeed from Jesus as it was shown on the cross.

7. Holy, Holy Spirit /

This song is talking about the Holy Spirit. "Holy holy spirit fill a person like me" this song goes.

God is triune God, God the father , God the Son, and The Holy Spirit. It is very difficult to explain and is difficult to understand to us.

Jesus taught about the Holy Spirit to his disciples that This Holy Spirit is called “Another counselor, another helper" for He has the same love ,same power and same grace that Jesus has.

Also the Holy Spirit is called the Spirit of Truth which means the Holy Spirit teach us God's truth and he helps us to understand what Jesus had taught.

By this Holy Spirit we may know who God is and God make our heart so

clear to understand what God is speaking to us by the work of the Holy Spirit.

Paul has written in the letter to Romans 5:5

"Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us."

8. Wait on The Lord /

This song comes from Psalms 27:14

Wait on the Lord;

Be of good courage,

And He shall strengthen your heart;

Wait, I say, on the Lord!

Apostle Paul has written in his letter to 1Corinthians15

3 For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve. 6 After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep. 7 After that He was seen by James, then by all the apostles. 8 Then last of all He was seen by me also, as by one born out of due time.

For Paul the resurrection of Jesus is especially important thing.

According to the Bible Death is not the end of the story. As Christ raised from the dead means those who believed in Him also have hope to live again with Christ.

One of the most important words in the Bible is this in John's Gospel

3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

There is great hope in Jesus, forgiveness of sins, life after death, changing from Glory to glory. So this song also is very meaningful to be sung.

God Bless You. God Bless You !

God Bless You! This is a common word for greetings but real blessings from God, just like returning home of runaways with great forgiveness and welcome, Blessings of living in the holy presence of God, Joy of knowing the savor and joy of being known by God Himself in His Love,

May God Bless You as you have read these massages of the songs.

Blessings to You all!
